SCA (STRONG CUSTOMER AUTHENTICATION)

The strong customer authentication is a newly developed European norm that takes effect on sept 14,2019, it deals with online customer-initiated payments. It is a part of the second payment services directive (PSD2). it enforces two authentication methods for the checkout flow out of the three methods.

  • Information known to the customer (PIN, PASSWORD)

  • Information the customer has (PHONE NUMBER, VERIFICATION CODE)

  • Identity of the customer( FINGERPRINT, FACE RECOGNITION)

Without the compliance of the new requirements, process payments will not be accepted by the banks.

DO I NEED TO COMPLY WITH SCA?

SCA applies to those customers, whose online transactions are above 30€ but both cardholders bank and issuer must be located in the European economic area (EEA)

The new rule does not apply to in-person card payments and direct debits.

SCA compliance is a matter of incorporation with payment providers. no change is required in the way you work, although installation and updation of new modules are needed.

WHAT CHANGES TO DO IN ODOO?

No actions are required on your behalf in odoo for the payment acquirers. When using stripe, Ingenico or authorize.net as a provider, a module updation is highly required. After the updation is installed in your database, an email will be sent to the odoo online customers. When you don't update your modules, there is no need for worrying, it's just there will be a hard time paying your customers.
